SKINCARE LAYERING: IT'S THE ORDER THAT COUNTS
We work according to the motto: Teamwork makes the dream work! And what applies to real life also applies to skincare. After all, serums, concentrates and day creams are great on their own - but they only really come into their own when combined with the right partners! That's why today we're going to tell you how to apply your skincare products in the right order and how to layer them optimally. We hope you enjoy this little skincare layering crash course!
We often get the question: Dear Judith Williams Cosmetics Team, in what order should I apply my products? We heard your call for help, and your wish is our command: Here is a step-by-step guide on how to layer your skincare treasures most effectively.
Why Skincare Layering is So Important?
The correct order of application determines whether all the wonderful active ingredients can fully unfold their power. Otherwise, the individual serums and creams with their valuable contents cannot perform their tasks, block each other, and even act as barriers. But don't worry, it's actually no big secret: Here’s how to do it right!
Step 1: Cleansing
Whether with cleansing milk, foam, gel, or tonic: thorough cleansing of your skin in the morning and evening is always the first step! It removes sebum and cream residues, makeup, and dirt that have accumulated during the day and night, forming the foundation of your skincare routine.
Step 2: Toner
The toner is an often underestimated part of a good skincare routine. But it makes a real difference in achieving a dream complexion – promised! It regulates the skin's pH value, removes the last residues, and creates the perfect transition between cleansing and care.
Step 3: Exfoliation
A gentle exfoliation is an optional step that you ideally treat yourself to 1 to 2 times a week. It frees the skin from dead skin cells and ensures a smooth, refined complexion.
Step 4: Mask
Unlike other skincare products, masks can take super intensive care of your skin: they provide it with a higher concentration of active ingredients, which it can absorb much better – and soak up like a sponge in a short time. And the best part: there is a suitable mask for every skin problem!
‘Order is half the battle even when it comes to facial care!’
– Judith Williams
Step 5: Ampoules
These power cocktails have the highest concentration of active ingredients, penetrate the deepest into the skin, and build a particularly powerful protection – perfect for immediate and long-term effects.
Step 6: Concentrate
These thin, almost pure active ingredients re-activate the skin with their tailored dosages. We love it!
Step 7: Serum
A serum usually contains fewer different active ingredients than a concentrate but is more highly concentrated. The gel-like or milky textures absorb quickly and deliver particularly intense mixes of active ingredients into the skin.
Step 8: Eye Care
Eye concentrates, gels, and creams provide the most sensitive area of our face with an extra dose of moisture. A little beauty tip: Gently tap them in with your ring finger – it applies the least pressure.
Step 9: Face Cream
The day or night cream at the end not only hydrates but also seals in all the other fine care substances you have applied to your skin, making it look plump and rosy!
JUDITH'S TIP
If you are ever unsure about the order, you can remember this rough rule of thumb: from thin to thick! This means that you should always apply the lightest textures such as serums first and then gradually apply the heavier ones. And dear beauty: Give your skin a short moment after each layer. Then it can absorb the wonderful contents in peace before the next layer of ‘luxury’ arrives.
Step 10: Face Oil
Face oils are plumping anti-ageing wonders that offer maximum protection for your skin cells, especially during the colder seasons. They revitalise and bring stressed skin back to balance. We find them particularly dreamy as a night treatment!
Step 11: Neck and Décolleté Care
These specialised products lovingly care for the very demanding skin structure in the neck and décolleté area, providing intensive protection and regeneration.
Step 12: Sunscreen
Super important in the morning! Especially after exfoliation and on sunny days. Always remember: how you protect your skin from the sun today will determine how it looks in 15 to 20 years!
You're Ready to Go
You see, optimal skincare consists of several steps. But don’t worry: this doesn’t mean you have to spend an extra hour in the bathroom – we’re all busy bees with full schedules. You can simplify this routine! What’s important is to remember that different textures have different effects and should be applied in the right order. Otherwise, it’s like a lavish buffet: everything gets mixed up, and you end up feeling too full and overwhelmed. 😉
We hope this guide helps you maintain healthy, well-cared-for skin. Now, all that’s left is to wish you lots of joy in glowing and enjoying your skincare routine. And of course: Happy Skincare Layering!
