HOW TO FIND YOUR SKIN TYPE
A question that we are often asked, but that you have been asking us particularly often in recent weeks: How do I recognise my skin type and how do I find the right skincare product? Great question, important topic - and time for answers. Let's talk about the basics!
Finding your skin type is essential for choosing the right skincare products and routine. Here’s a simple, beginner-friendly guide to help you determine your skin type:
Cleanse Your Face: Start by washing your face with a gentle cleanser. Pat it dry with a clean towel.
Wait for an Hour: Do not apply any products to your skin. Let it rest for about an hour.
Observe Your Skin: After an hour, examine your skin in a mirror and note how it feels and looks.
Here are the characteristics of different skin types:
Normal Skin: Feels comfortable, not too oily or dry. Pores are not very visible.
Oily Skin: Appears shiny, especially on the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin). Pores are more visible and you might notice some oil on the surface.
Dry Skin: Feels tight and may have flaky or rough patches. Pores are less visible.
Combination Skin: Oily in the T-zone but dry or normal on the cheeks.
Sensitive Skin: Easily irritated, may appear red or feel itchy and tight.
For a more detailed assessment, you can also use blotting paper:
Blotting Paper Test: Gently press a piece of blotting paper on different areas of your face (forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin).
Examine the Paper: If the paper picks up oil from all areas, you have oily skin. If it picks up oil only from the T-zone, you have combination skin. If there’s little to no oil, you have dry or normal skin.
Understanding your skin type helps you tailor your skincare routine to meet its specific needs. If you’re still unsure, consulting a dermatologist can provide professional insights.
